Monkey

This style in Chi Lin is without doubt one of the most unique styles there are. Not all styles, attitude and technique are taught to each student. The Monkey style is taught to very few. The energy level, body type and flexibility of the individual student usually dictates whether or not this style is taught. There are many low stances, jumping and rolling in this style.
A second variation of this art within Chi Lin is Black Ape. The attitude of the Gorilla is used by the student to fight with. Larger body types, massive strength, quickness and dexterity will all be an asset to this style.
Iron Palm training may also be used to train the hands of a student in Black Ape.
No one who is below the age of 18 should practice any of the special hand training. Their bodies are still growing. The training should be done when the growth of the body stops.
The attitude that the student should have when practicing this style is emotionless and excited.
Some techniques in Chi Ling Pai are Striking Monkey Fist, Flying Monkey Fist, Young Monkey Block, Monkey's Way Block, Monkey Kick and Rolling Monkey Kick.
Moving quickly and striking, often in and out of attacking range are characteristics of this style. Once the fighter closes the gap they may take down the opponent by smothering them, even sometimes climbing directly on to them. Controlling their mass and striking hard and fast while doing so. Monkey techniques are very often deceptive. By practicing natural body movements, the strikes and blocks seem to come out of nowhere.
