Eagle
This style in Chi Lin is another external style where strong techniques and very low stances are the keys to the system. The hand training is also important in developing the Eagle claw which grabs the neck and jugular vein, or the clavicle bone and then controls the opponent by applying searing pain to the areas.
The hand training consists of working with a chain link fence and using the eagle claw hand techniques to grab the fence with your fingers.
Special lineament is also used with this training to keep the hand from being damaged. The result of proper training is a very powerful technique that can grab flesh and attack the opponent by creating extreme pain to the neck, head, arm and chest. In fact, wherever the eagle grabs will be hurt. The hand becomes extremely powerful when trained in this way.
Other hand training is to thrust your Eagle Claw hand techniques into cardboard boxes that have been prepared for the exercise. Later, more cardboard should be added to increase the difficulty of the exercise. These training methods need to be directed by an experienced Sifu in order for you to develop. No one who is below the age of 18 should practice any of the special hand training. The're bodies are still growing. The training should be done when the growth of the body stops.
The stances in Eagle are very low and employ many short sweeps and kicks to attack with. At times the fighter can almost run while remaining very low to the ground and can be quick to strike and evade.
Eagle is another good "in fighting" art. Close quarter combat is where the fighter can really begin to use many of the Bent Wing Eagle Blocks and the Eagle Hand Swords, that are taught within Chi Ling Pai.
Other techniques in Chi Ling Pai Gung Fu are the Long Arm Eagle Sets, Young Eagle Block and Standing Eagle Block.
The attitude that the student should have when practicing this style is fierce and emotionless. Proud and extremely fast. Confident and accurate when striking and blocking.
